WITH A FATAL ROAD ACCIDENT EVERY 8 HOURS, HAMED AL WAHIBI AND ALI AL HABSI TEAM UP TO DRIVE HOME AWARENESS ON ROAD SAFETY
MUSCAT, Tuesday 22 May 2012: Rally champion Hamed al Wahaibi and Oman national team captain and English Premier League star Ali al Habsi have teamed up to head road safety awareness organisation - Safety First.
Safety First, a Not-For-Profit road safety awareness organisation, announced the partnership at a press conference in Muscat, in a move that seeks to promote road safety amongst all road users across the country.
Fatal accidents on Oman’s roads are a national tragedy, and the time for action is now. Led by these two sporting legends, Safety First intends to drive the road safety message home, reducing road traffic accidents and deaths by 50% by 2020.
Hamed al Wahaibi, Co – Founder of Safety First, said:
“Today in Oman almost everyone, has been affected by, or suffered as a result of road traffic accidents. This is truly a sad fact.
“Safety First is in the process of building organisational capacity working towards the order of His Majesty to reduce road accidents and deaths. We are undertaking the important task of engaging with Government and the Royal Oman Police. From here we will look to implement campaigns that promote road safety awareness, support law enforcement efforts and Government policy.
“Today we are also launching our new brand identity, which will become an identifier for road safety well into the future.”
Ali al Habsi, Co- Founder of Safety First, said:
“As part of working towards the order of His Majesty to reduce road accidents and deaths, both Hamed and I will use our public profiles to reach out to all road users - young and old, pedestrians and drivers.
“The whole community in Oman is concerned about road safety, which is now a national health issue. Safety First will play an important role in informing and empowering people to make safer choices when using the roads.”
